VIRAC, Catanduanes, Aug 12 (PIA) -- As part of the celebration of its 73rd Founding Anniversary, the National Statistics Office (NSO) provincial office has slated a series of information campaigns on the different programs and activities of the agency providing public and private administrators and political leaders with critical survey results to assist in better implementation of various socio-civic programs.
Anavi F. Camacho, NSO Catanduanes officer-in-charge, said the activities will cater to local residents that will also include campus reach-out program, clean-up drive activities, blood-letting drive, and thanksgiving mass.
This year’s theme, “Handog ng NSO: 73 Taong Taos-Pusong Serbisyo Sa Mundo,” aims to bring true service to the Filipino people.
The campus reach-out activity meanwhile aims to address the various and common issues faced by graduating students. The reach out will be held in campuses on August 7, 14, 21, and 28 in a four repeat presentations and interactive activities.
On the other hand, the clean-up drive will be held on August 17 in Virac town as a realization of NSO’s caring for the environment program.
Moreover, the blood-letting drive and thanksgiving mass which welcome everyone aims to promote volunteerism and religious observance.
It was during the time of President Manuel L. Quezon, almost four months prior to Japanese attack on Clark Airbase and Baguio City that signaled Japanese invasion in the Philippines, when the National Statistics Office (NSO) or then was called the Bureau of the Census and Statistics (BCS) was established.
It was on August 19, 1940 when the Commonwealth Act No. 591 or known as “An Act Creating a Bureau of the Census & Statistics” was formally signed into law decreeing the establishment of a national agency that will carry out general-purpose statistics and administration of Civil Registry Law.
From a war-ravaged beginning, the agency has persisted and now, is one of the government’s crucial agencies that feed information and statistics critical for progress, development and nation building. (MAL/EAB/NSO Catanduanes/PIA5)
