LEGAZPI CITY, 11 July 2013 (BFP R-5). Once again, the Bureau of Fire Protection 5 (BFP-5), under the able stewardship of its Regional Director in SSUPT LEONARDO O PRADES JR, proved that despite the perennial lack of logistical and financial resources of the organization, BFP R-5 still performed its mandate of saving lives and properties.
These accomplishments are positive evidences of the previously-mentioned statement.
Since SSUPT PRADES’ assumption of office last August 2011, he achieved a number of remarkable accomplishments.
In line with personnel career development, he recommended personnel to undergo the different mandatory training commensurate to their ranks.
He was able to promote two hundred forty-one (241) personnel, of whom one hundred twenty-two (122) are presently on process. As of this writing, sixteen (16) items for new Fire Officers are also being processed.
Just last July 10th, thirty (30) aspiring fire fighters underwent Physical Agility Test and panel interview.
They were the successful examinees who garnered the top 30 spots out of the one hundred forty-one (141) examinees who took the Qualifying Exam last July 8th at Ibalong Centrum for Recreation (ICR).
On fire prevention and safety, an increase in occupancies inspected and fire code fees collected were noted.
In line with enhancing fire fighting capability, a total of twenty-seven (27) fire trucks were repaired. Likewise, thirteen (13) fire stations were repaired. He has also facilitated the distribution of equipment which were previously procured.
Very recently last June 28th, BFP R-5 participated in the record-breaking Largest Human No Smoking sign at Bicol University that qualified to the Guinness World Record Academy.
The Special Rescue Unit (SRU) of the agency was also very visible in its disaster risk reduction campaign.
Its latest operation was that of the search, rescue and retrievaloflocal and foreign tourists from the slopes of Mayon Volcano during its phreatic explosion last May 7th.
Insufficiency in the government may be an issue at times, but this will not be a hindrance for the men and women in blue to serve with utmost pride and dignity.(PIA5/MSC/BFP5/)
