Organizer preps up for 2013 Linggo ng Kalikasan

VIRAC, Catanduanes, June 13 (PIA) -- The theme: “Basura: Pangasiwaan Para sa Kalikasan” was chosen for this year’s celebration of the Linggo ng Kalikasan promote public awareness on proper management of waste as a mean of protecting the environment.

The celebration of the Linggo ng Kalikasan will be on June 17 to June 21. Among the activities are eco-run dubbed "Takbo Para sa Kalikasan" on June 17. This will kick off at the Catanduanes State University compound to the Provincial Capitol grounds.

An opening program will follow with Gina Lopez of the Bantay Kalikasan Foundation will serve as the guest of honor and speaker of the program.

On the 2nd day of the celebration, "Pauragan 2013" will be conducted to be participated by the lead agencies. It will be followed by the Catanduanes Arbor Day.

A Collage-Making Contest, Tagisan sa Paglikha and Gabi ng Parangal are also set as part of the festivity.

According to Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Ed Guerrero, Vice-Chairman of this year’s steering committee, the annual Linggo ng Kalikasan is being celebrated pursuant to Resolution No. 082-2010.

Furthermore, he said that Linggo ng Kalikasan is also the province’s way of showing its support to United Nation’s declaration of every 5th of June as World Environment Day. (MAL/EAB/PIA5-Catanduanes)
