The 500-square meter beachfront turned center and park located in San Andres town aims to raise awareness of coal communities on the need for biodiversity protection and conservation.
The establishment of such shall help in easing the impact of climate change in coastal communities, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) chief Ed Joaquin Guerrero said.
Last week a memorandum of agreement was signed by DENR Bicol officials led by regional executive director Gilbert Gonzales together with barangay council and the landowner.
The MOA provides that the DENR shall provide technical assistance and tree seedlings to be planted in the area; conduct Information Education Campaigns; and disseminate information regarding the laws and regulation governing biodiversity conservation.
Meanwhile, the barangay council will assist DENR in the tree-planting; maintain and protect the park; report any untoward incidents to DENR and monitor daily activities in the center.
On the other hand, the property owned by the Santelices family will be utilized for five-years, subject to renewal. (MAL/EAB/PIA5-Catanduanes)
