LEGAZPI CITY, June 11 (PIA) -- Two Bicolanos are among the 20 national semi-finalists selected by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in its 2013 Search for Outstanding Public Officials and Employees.
“Simeon Ballon and Arnulfo Balane of the Bicol region are among the 20 semi-finalists for this year’s Dangal ng Bayan award chosen from 47 qualified nominees all over the country,” said CSC V information officer Yoyie Jalmanzar in the Ugnayan sa Bicol program of this agency.
Ballon is the senior fire officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Tiwi, Albay and has been an awardee for the Bayaning Kawani category in 2012.
Balane is the schools division superintendent of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Daet, Camarines Norte.
Aside from their simplicity and unassuming conduct, Ballon and Balane have been doing community services outside their function as a government employee.
“From our validation, their co-employees have attested to their kindness and simplicity as a public servant. They have also gone the extra mile in serving the people in their communities,” said Jalmanzar.
These services have been of great help not only to their fellow employees but to the people in their communities as well.
“We are hoping for them to be included in the finals although their entries will be further assessed and validated both by CSC personnel and external committee composed of prominent persons in the country,” added Jalmanzar.
The Dangal ng Bayan award is given by the CSC to government employees and officials with extraordinary act of public service and consistent demonstration of exemplary ethical behavior based on the norms of conduct specified under Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
This year’s awardees will receive a cash prize of P200,000 and a trophy designed and made by National Artist for Sculpture Napoleon V. Abueva. They are also entitled to other forms of reward and incentives provided for under Section 6 of RA 6713.
These may include bonuses, citations, directorships in government-owned or controlled corporations, local and foreign scholarship grants, paid vacations and automatic promotion to the next higher position with the commensurate salary suitable to their qualifications. (MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
