VIRAC, Catanduanes, Dec. 13 (PIA) -- Students in a local school here have gained access to information available in cyberspace.
This opportunity for students was realized after the Buyo Integrated School was chosen by the CSU Extension Unit as recipient of the Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) service for Internet connectivity.
The provincial government provides the WiFi equipment and facilities.
The launching of internet connection in Buyo Integrated School was led by officials of the Catanduanes provincial government, DepEd Catanduanes, and Catanduanes State University (CSU).
The project is part of the University’s Sustainable Ecosystem Program for Community Development to the Buyo District in Virac.
The outreach program, led by SUC president III Dr. Minerva I. Morales, along with the vice president for REPA Dr. Aida A. Dianela, and Extension directorDr. Maria S. Tugano, is undertaken in partnership with the Virac LGU, Diocese of Virac, DENR-PENRO, DTI Catanduanes, DOST Catanduanes, Provincial Government of Catanduanes, DepEd Division of Catanduanes and FIDA Catanduanes.
The program covers the nine barangays of Buyo District.
A computer laboratory with 10 computer units with Internet connection is currently being used by the Buyo Integrated School. The facility is open to all students, school employees and even to the community.
“I never let students surf the net without anyone supervising them,” said Frankie T. Turalde, principal of Buyo Integrated School.
Turalde also added that one of the advantages of having an Internet connection is that it is easier for the students to research, unlike before that the learning of students are very limited.
The Submission of Learner Reference Number – a 12-digit number used to facilitate the tracking of students and their performance – is much easier now with the help of the Wi-Fi connection, Turalde said.
The principal extended his gratitude to the CSC Administration for their efforts in making their school a Wi-Fi zone. Dr. Tugano said that they regularly monitor the status of the Wi-Fi connection. (MAL/EAB/GSRubio-CSU/PIA5
