Virac health office conducts 'Buntis Congress'

VIRAC, Catanduanes, September 15 (PIA) --Over 50 pregnant women attended the “Buntis Congress” on September 7 at the Provincial Capitol Dome with the theme: “Bados Ako…Ano ang Responsibilidad Ko?”
The activity was aimed to provide education on the priority areas of Maternal and Child Health interventions including antenatal registration, high-risk pregnancy, labor and delivery as well as newborn screening, breastfeeding, maternal and child nutrition and family planning.
Municipal Health Officer Dr. Arlene Arcilla said the activity was also conducted to introduce the services offered by the Rural Health Unit, specifically the Basic Emergency Obstetric and New-born Care facility.
She added that by expanding health consciousness and awareness among pregnant women, the mortality rate on pregnancy-related cases in the municipality of Virac is hoped to be reduced.
Topics discussed include parental check-up, labor and delivery, newborn screening, breastfeeding and family planning.
The activity was spearheaded by the Virac Municipal Health Office in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Virac.
Participants of the congress expressed gratitude saying that the activity is helpful both to them and their would be newborn.

Partylist turns over multicab to Legazpi women’s org
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Sept 15 (PIA) -- Ako Bikol Partylist has turned over a multicab to Legazpi City Women’s Federation (LCWF) on Thursday.
Ako Bikol Representative Alfredo Garbin turned over the multicab to the federation’s president, Nazreen Garbeen, and the vice president, Lilibeth Muñoz Dimaculangan.
The multicab donation formed part of AKB’s support to LCWF to augment resources for the livelihood programs and other initiatives of said women’s organization catering to the needs of the residents, especially those residing in the far-flung barangays of this city, Gabin said during the ceremony.
Legazpi City Mayor Carmen Geraldine B. Rosal cited AKB for the donation, stating the vehicle will be used for all the programs and activities of the organization and efficiently provide the necessary services to the people.
Rosal said one of the foremost agenda of her administration include the livelihood program of the women’s organizations providing the constituents an additional jobs and business activities at their own villages.
Dimaculangan, on the other hand, said that for the past years, LCWF held several seminar and training programs such as dress making, welding, plumbing, tinapa making, electrical, therapy, soap making, refrigeration and air conditioning in every barangay. (MAL/MPSolis-LGU Legazpi City/PIA5)
