SPES year-round jobs await students in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY, April 13 (PIA) -- Around 5,000 young people will have the chance to financially support their studies as the Department of Labor and Employment provincial office here continuous their Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this year in partnership with the different local government units (LGU’s) and private companies in the region.

Esmeralda Suarez, DOLE Regional Office V Planning Officer, said that the SPES has now expanded as a year-round program, “We now have the expanded SPES wherein students can apply for a job not only this summer but at any time of the year as long as there are employers in need of workers."

Suarez confirmed that the P6 million worth of budget for the SPES to be distributed as financial grants among students has been doubled this year.

The poor but deserving students with the intention to study are the priorities of the said program. “They must present their white form or any proof that they will be continuing their studies or else they cannot avail of the program,” Suarez stressed.

Requirements needed to avail of the said program are barangay certification of indigency, BIR Tax Exemption Certification, medical certificate and application letter.

Interested applicants can go to their nearest DOLE provincial office or Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in their area for further inquiries. (MAL/SAA-PIA5 Albay)


Specialista Technopreneurship Program launched in Camarines Norte

DAET, Camarines Norte, April 13 (PIA) -- A Specialista Technopreneurship Program (TSTP) was launched here recently by the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in support to the government’s stimulus program to push economic growth back on track.

Flora U. Raña, TSTP focal person said the program was designed to be a team development model for communities with the mission to help TESDA-trained and certified workers to get into productive undertakings to help themselves through the provision of services.

She said that they have already organized five Samahang Specialistas composed of community-based service groups of TESDA-trained and certified workers.

The group was organized into synergistic composition of various related skills that can serve the multifarious services equipment of households and small communities.

The said five groups organized were: two building/house repair and maintenance for the local government unit of Talisay ang Barangay Iberica of Labo; one Beauty Care and Wellness also for Barangay Iberica of Labo; and two computer hardware services for system interface and St. Clair Arts and Technology schools.

She said that the TESDA has already provided tool kits for the group as grant to include tools for electrician, mason, carpenter, plumbers, painter, haircutters, massage therapy, and computer technicians.

Raña added that the TESDA will conduct a weekly monitoring of income of the organized groups and feedback regarding the program. (RBM-PIA Camarines Norte)
