BFAR leads writeshop on effective documentation

BULA, Camarines Sur, Aug.2 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Bicol regional office spearheaded the three-day “Writeshop on Effective Documentation” at the Regional Freshwater Fisheries Center here recognizing the importance of relaying relevant, useful and timely information to ensure effective communication.

The activity, held July 21-31, help trained employees of BFAR in all provinces of Bicol region on effective news and feature writing, including photo documentation.

Amelia Perez, a freelance writer, expounded on feature writing and tips to effectively write feature stories and in-depth tales or stories.

PIA Camarines Sur chief Ana-Liza Macatangay lectured on basic news writing and tips to effectively convey stories using only the substantial elements or facts to come up with a news story.

On photojournalism, Ping Peralta gave an overview of the concept of photojournalism and the different aspects of photography, basic camera control and familiarizing the audience with the equipment’s parts and functions, among others.

BFAR Bicol regional director Dennis del Socorro gave his full support to the activity with the hope that at the end of the three-day seminar, BFAR personnel will be equipped with the basic know how on reporting and documentation which is vital in the information dissemination campaign of the agency.

“This endeavor really intends to prepare our personnel on how to become effective communicators and come up with well written output for an effective relay of information and developed an improved cooperation amongst their co-workers and its various clienteles,” del Socorro said.

The participant’s eagerness to learn was also evident in all the sessions with most of them admitting that this is the first time that they were introduced to the topics and lectures discussed in the said seminar. (MAL/LSM-PIA5/-Camarines Sur)

Legazpi to offer interest-free loan to tricycle operators, drivers

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 1 (PIA) -- Legitimate tricycle operators and drivers of this city may soon avail themselves of a zero-interest loan assistance program being offered by the city government here, a Sangguniang Panlunsod (SP) member said.

Councilor Rolly Rosal, SP public utilities committee chair, said the loan assistance is contained in the Resolution No. 0122-2013 requesting the city mayor to appropriate the amount of P400,000 as seed money for loan assistance to deserving operators and drivers of tricycles operating in the territorial areas of Legazpi.

The resolution was unanimously approved by the City Council headed by Vice Mayor Vittorio Roces as presiding officer on July 23 and signed by City Mayor Noel E. Rosal on the same date.

Councilor Rosal said his office is now fine-tuning the guidelines and mechanics on how operators and drivers can avail themselves of the loan program.

The city legislator said this program to financially support the members of the transport sector aims to give them an opportunity to improve their daily living condition.

He also urged them to follow all the city ordinances related to the transport sector to give more satisfaction to the riding public, particularly visitors and tourists by collecting only the right amount of fare from them.

Rosal, noted that in 2009, the total amount collected by the City Franchising Office from tricycle operators in this city was only P420,480, but when he was elected as committee on public utilities in 2010, he said, the collection climbed to P1,243,000, or an increase of 295 percent.

And now, he was again elected as committee chair for second time and he promised to put in place the good practices in the transport sector by reminding tricycle operators and drivers the "Tamang Singil (right fare collection)" advocacy. (MAL/EPSolis-LGU Legazpi City/PIA5)

PopCom partners with media, stakeholders to promote programs

NAGA CITY, Aug. 1 (PIA) --The Commission on Population (PopCom) led an interfacing with the media, faith-based, non-government and civil society organizations soliciting the support of the latter in disseminating information on the importance of responsible parenting and family planning in relation with development and environmental issues.

In the same consultation conference, Magdalena G. Abellera, regional director of PopCom in Bicol, said the stakeholders expound on approaches and identify innovative strategies and advocacy plans to promote responsible parenting and family planning

Abellera underscored the media's key role in shaping the minds in pursuit of development due to the sector's vast coverage and information dissemination capabilities.

In a planning workshop, stakeholders also came up with plans, measures and activities to disseminate the concept and approaches on responsible parenting and family planning, such as institutionalizing partnership with media and civil society organizations in the implementation of population programs, creation of centers for family planning especially in far-flung municipalities, creation of school-based youth centers, production and airing of radio plugs/programs.

Radio stations DWRB-Radyo ng Bayan and Bombo Radyo, both in this city have initially signified support to all PopCom’s programmes and projects via airing of radio plugs and/or programs.

With the help of the media and the different civil society groups, the Commission hopes to improve the quality of life of the people through information dissemination and resource materials while at the same time ensuring environmental protection. (MAL/LSM-PIA5/Camarines Sur)
