LEGAZPI CITY, April 22 (PIA) - As part of their intensified monitoring and enforcement of the Fair Trade Law, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Bicol region has issued notices of violation to hardware stores who did not comply with the Product Standards Law.
DTI Bicol regional director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco revealed that out of 137 hardware stores that were visited, fifteen were issued notices of violation for selling uncertified and deceptive products. These products do not have the required Product Standard (PS) and Imported Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers which is in violation of Republic Act 4109 and 7394, otherwise known as the Product Standards Law and the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
DTI Bicol estimated the cost of ther non-compliant products around P.3 million.
Blanco said the inspections were done throughout the Bicol region by DTI Bicol Regional Enforcement and Monitoring Teams from March 29 to April 15 of this year.
The enforcement activities are done twice every year to make sure that traders in the region always comply with the law.
Of the fifteen notices of violation (NOV); six were issued to hardware stores in Albay, four in Camarines Norte, one in Sorsogon, and two each in the provinces of Camarines Sur and Masbate.
Blanco appealed to the public to be critical in buying goods and commodities to get the best value for their money.
“Each should be cautious and must look for the appropriate markings, particularly on the mandatory products… We are serious in our quest to eradicate uncertified products in the market,” reminded the Director Blanco. (MAL/JBE-PIA5)
