LEGAZPI CITY, March 28 (PIA) – Twenty six personnel of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Bicol regional office recently undertook the Trainers’ Training for Board of Election Inspection (BEI) Certifiers in preparation for the 2016 national and local elections on May 9 this year.
DOST Bicol regional director Tomas Briñas explained that in the certification process, written examination was administered to trainees that need to get a passing grade of 60 percent by getting 24 of the 40 items correct. The test was followed by the practical or hands-on test which they need to get a perfect (14/14) to pass.
Briñas added that as a requirement, the teacher-participants should pass both written and practical examinations. A retake is only allowed once for those who failed in the written examination but passed the practical examination. Retake for those who failed the practical examination is not allowed.
The training commenced last February 29 and will run until April 15, 2016 based on the preparation timeline of the Commission on Election or Comelec.
Ralph Martin N. Roque, SRS II of the Provincial Science and Technology Center in Albay and named as BEI regional coordinator and supervising certifier for the province, led the conduct of certification training, while the provincial S&T directors across Bicol region who were designated as supervising certifiers did the same in their respective areas of responsibility.
In accordance with DOST Administrative Order No. 012, series of 2015, the certifiers submit the list of examinees and results to the regional certifier who then prepares the list of certified BEIs to be signed by DOST regional director.
DOST through Special Order No. 732, series of 2015, created the implementation structure for the 2016 DOST Certification Program for the BEI in the coming May 2016 national and local elections.
The Program Steering Committee (PSC) and the Program Implementation Staff (PIS) establish the DOST Certification Program Protocol and General Instructions to ensure appropriate implementation of the said program. (MAL-PIA5/Albay)
