Virac, Catanduanes, Feb. 23, (PIA) – A total of 57 reciepients has completed the orientation on the Government Internship Program (GIP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provincial office here held at SP session Hall last February 19, 2016.
DOLE Catanduanes provincial director Russell Ulysses Nieves said that one of the objectives of the program is to provide young workers, particularly the poor, indigent and young workers, an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service.
He added that the program has the ultimate objective of attracting the best of the brightest who wants to pursue a career in government service, particularly in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment and to fast track the implementation and monitoring of DOLE programs and projects related to employment facilitation and social protection.
“All of which directly contributes to the goal of inclusive growth through massive employment generation and substantial poverty reduction,” said Nieves.
Under the program, beneficiaries shall include those areas wherein the following programs are implemented:
National Household Targeting System (NHTS); Local Government participating in the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB); Child Labor-Free Barangay Program; National Skills Registry Program.
Priority areas for intervention as identified by the joint Human Development and Poverty Reduction Cluster.
Beneficiaries of DOLE-GIP shall perform the following duties and functions: Profiling of child laborers in the barangay; encoding of registration in the Skills Registry system; assisting public school personnel and staff; assisting LGU, public hospitals personnel and performing duties assigned by the government agencies-program partner.
The 57 GIP beneficiaries of the province of Catanduanes will be deployed to the 11 LGUs and partner agencies like DTI, TESDA, DOLE and DOST.
The Internship Agreement shall be for a minimum of six (6) months computed from the date that the intern reported for work of assignment. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
