VIRAC, Catanduanes, Jan. 27 (PIA) -- The Provincial Tourism Office of Catanduanes has disclosed that it has recorded a total of 40,258 tourist arrivals for the month of July to September 2015.
According to Carmel B. Garcia, foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in the island went up by 19.77 percent in the third quarter compared to the same period last year with only 33,612.
For the month of September alone, visitors surged by 23.5 percent to 15,069, from 12,197 a year ago.
Also, tourist arrivals in July reached 11,941 and 12, 248 in August compared to last year’s 10,572 and 10,843 for the same months, respectively.
Garcia said that most of the foreign visitors were from America, Russia, China, Canada, and Taiwan. She also associated the same with the lesser number of typhoons that passed by the island in 2015.
The tourism official added that the province’s consistent publicity and promotion via social media, which is the fastest, cheapest and most accessible platform nowadays, contributed a lot to the tourist arrival.
In the first quarter, tourist arrivals jumped 23.81 percent from 31,847 to 39,432, while in the second quarter, the number of visitors grew by 15.18 percent from 46,380 in 2014 to 53,424 last year.
The quarterly tourist arrivals came from the reports submitted by various accommodation establishments in the province. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
