SORSOGON CITY, Nov. 2 (PIA) – To better equip the media and the barangay health workers primarily in the areas of operation of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the Community Partnerships Department (CPD) of EDC BacMan in Sorsogon conducted a three-day Basic Emergency and Survival Training (BEST) on Sep. 30-Oct. 2, 2015 at Patio de San Jose, Malilipot, Albay.
A total of 45 participants joined the BES Training which covered moderate physical exercise, search and rescue operation, cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), rope tying, bandaging, compass reading and basic self-defense.
Facilitator-trainor Dr. Ted Esguerra of EDC-Disaster Response Unit (DRU) said the training intends to give the media and the public health workers in the barangay knowledge about preparedness and the basic platforms when confronted in an emergency situation, and likewise protect themselves in whatever danger that involved their job.
He emphasized that in survival, it is deemed necessary that a scene assessment or survey be conducted; always remember who, what and where you are; vanquish panic; improvise; value life; act only after thinking; and learn the basic life skills. He likewise underscored that haste always makes waste.
Participant and station manager of Padaba-FM station Angeles Apin said that though he found the training too tough, it was worth sacrificing as he learned so much and is more confident now to apply what he learned when situation called for it.
The participants were likewise grateful to EDC for the opportunity and are looking forward to more activities as meaningful as what they have experienced.
EDC CPD head Eduardo Jimenez in his closing remarks during the culmination congratulated the participants for giving their best contributing to the success of the training and promised for another activity for both the media and BHWs next year. (MAL/BAR/CLDeyto- PIA5/Sorsogon)
