DAET, Camarines Norte, Aug. 20, (PIA) – A railway transit project amounting to more or less $4 billion or P200 billion connecting Manila to Matnog will help decongest Metro Manila, Senator Francis Joseph “Chiz” Escudero said in a press conference here recently.
"This is a big private public partnership (PPP) project of the government under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino that will be bid out by November this year," he said.
He said that this project will be of greater assistance to the constituents of Camarines Norte as well as in the Bicol Region.
"Travelling through a railway transit is predictable as compared to vehicle which may encounter traffic," he said.
He noted that If the project will push through it will de clog Metro Manila because those employees and workers of Makati may reside in Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon or even in Camarines Norte.
The project may be finished more or less 5 years and I hope that in the bidding there would be a responsible winning contractor and be serious in the implementation, he said.
He said that if the project will be good, travel time will be more or less five hours from Manila to Sorsogon and vice versa.
On the other hand when asked about the project to help the province of Camarines Norte, Senator Chiz said that even other leaders Bicolano or not will spend in infrastructure focusing on agriculture and tourism.
Camarines Norte as well as the whole Bicol Region have huge of tourist sites but it need to be known through a story citing that the Monalisa painting in Paris is just small or two folder size but became well known.
He said that tourism is about a story, like what was behind the Monalisa painting that could encouraged tourists to visit place just to see the painting of Leonardo da Vinci.
He said that we should do stories of what we have in Camarines Norte or in the Bicol Region, tourists sites are not enough if we do not do something.
Escudero also said that the airports in Camarines Norte should also be developed, citing that the province has two airports located in Daet and Jose Panganiban.
What is important is to develop our infrastructure and have a good plan, he said.
"The Bicol River Basin Development Project (BRBDP) is also a potential in tourism but there is lack of funds, aside from me other Bicolano leaders can also help in this endeavor for us to feel the growth of our region," he said.
