DAET, Camarines Norte, March 28 (PIA) – The municipal government booked a 170-percent increase in its net income to P22.1 million in 2014, the town’s chief executive said during a briefing recently.
Mayor Tito S. Sarion attributed the significant gain to their proper fiscal management and their campaign to collect more taxes from the business sector in the locality.
Sarion said Daet became a more vibrant economy in 2014 after it topped the National Competitive Council’s list of most competitive municipalities in the Philippines.
He also cited the gain in teaming up with other local governments not only in the country but also overseas through the city sisterhood and town twinning programs.
He said these partnerships brought about socio-cultural and economic development to Daet, he said.
“In 2014 I also consider my trip in the US fruitful because the Bicol National Association of America, Sister Cities International Conference and the Hawaii Business meeting assured friendship and interest in the sister twinning program,” he said in his “2014 Ulat sa Bayan.”
Sarion said that to enable each Daet resident to benefit from the economic growth, the municipality opened the Daet Go Negosyo Center, a one-stop shop at the ground floor of the municipal hall for those starting a business in the locality.
This would encourage the establishment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that could reduce poverty in the locality, he said.
Sarion said that along with these accomplishments the municipality maintained its support to the Alternative Learning Systems (ALS) of the Department of Education (DepEd) through the passage of an ordinance creating the institutionalization of Instructional Managers in every barangay.
The municipal government has already allocated funds for the instructional managers’ trainings and honoraria, he said.
The effort’s contributions to the promotion of quality education in the locality was recognized by the national government when Daet was adjudged 1st runner up in the 2014 National Literacy Awards, he said.
With regards to the peace and order, the local chief executive said that the Daet Municipal Police Station was adjudged as Most Outstanding Municipal Police Station in the province for 2014.
This year, the local government’s theme is “Gayon Daet, Gayon Bicol 2015” or Greater Access on the Year of Opportunities and Nation Building.
“The theme signifies the lofty aspiration of the town to continue our amazing journey towards socio, economic, political, cultural development,” he said. (EAD/RBM-PIA5/Camarines Norte).
