LEGAZPI CITY, July 31 (PIA) – The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has announced to government workers directly affected by typhoon Glenda in Albay that they can file their special emergency leave until August 15.

“The special emergency leave may be availed of by the affected government employees within 30 days from the first day of calamity declaration by proper government authorities,” said CSC Bicol information officer Lynbee Niebla.

Albay has been declared under state of calamity on July 16.

The special leave is granted to state workers directly affected by natural disasters, specifically those stranded in affected areas, suffering from disease or illness caused by natural calamity or disaster, taking care of immediate family members affected by such or needing urgent repair and clean-up of damaged house.

The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported some 98,263 families in the province with damaged houses equivalent to P2.9 billion.

The special emergency leave can be applied for five straight working days or on staggered basis and will not be deducted from the employee’s leave credits,” Niebla said.

Heads of offices will take full responsibility in granting and verifying the employee’s eligibility to avail of such.

“Heads of offices may validate the place of residence of the affected employee based on latest available records or verify if the place of residence is covered in the declaration of calamity area,” Niebla said.

Provinces in the Bicol region also declared under state of calamity due to typhoon Glenda are Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte and Sorsogon.(MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
