LEGAZPI CITY, Feb 5 (PIA) – Two foreign medical teams are conducting this month free surgical operations to more than a hundred children in Albay with cleft lip and cleft palate as part of a medical mission.
The surgical operations slated February 3-7 and February 24 – March 5 will be done by medical teams from the United States and Australia.
Dr. Antonio Ludovice Jr, acting chief of the Albay Provincial Health Office (PHO), said beneficiaries for these missions were recruited in coordination with district hospitals and municipal and city health offices in the province.
The BRTTH also conducted mass screening of patients.
Ludovice added walk-in patients will also be accepted even after the medical screening.
The first batch of operation dubbed Faces of Tomorrow Medical Mission is conducted Monday until Friday this week at the BRTTH by the 36-man team composed of American medical practitioners including a surgeon, anesthesiologist, speech pathologists and nurses.
The Faces of Tomorrow Medical Mission is headed by the provincial government of Albay in partnership with the Office of the Vice President, Senator Nancy Binay and the Faces of Tomorrow Organization.
Furthermore the Australian medical team composed of 13 medical practitioners will be conducting another batch of free facial surgery under the "Helping Children Smile Medical Mission" at the Josefina Belmonte Duran Memorial District Hospital (JBDMDH) in Ligao City.
This activity is done through joint coordination of the provincial government of Albay, Rotary Club Southern Luzon, Albay and Legazpi City Chapters and the Department of Health (DOH). (MAL/SAA/PIA5/Albay)
