VIRAC, Catanduanes, Jan. 22 (PIA)- The National Statistics Office (NSO) provincial office here will undertake the January 2014 Consumer Expectations Survey (CES) that intends provide quick and regular assessments of consumer perceptions and expenditure plans
According to NSO provincial statistics officer Anavi Camacho the assessment output will be utilized as a tool for evaluating the consumer’s own financial situation, key economic indicators and the economy’s condition over a reference period.
She said that the survey is a joint undertaking of the National Statistics Office (NSO) and the Bangko Sentralng Pilipinas (BSP), with the latter as the funding agency.
The January 2014 CES is the 35th in a series of surveys since July 2004. The NSO conducted the CES mainly for the National Capital Region (NCR) from July 2004 to October 2006. In January 2007 to January 2008, the BSP thru a private agency conducted the CES including areas outside NCR. In April 2008, the conduct of CES was contracted back to NSO.
The respondent shall be the household head or any responsible member of the household present during the time of interview who can provide reliable answers to the questions asked by the enumerator.
The reporting unit is the household which means that the statistics emanating from this undertaking will refer to the characteristics of the population residing in private households
The authority for the survey emanates from Commonwealth Act No. 591, which authorizes the NSO under Section2 “to conduct by enumeration, sampling or other methods, for statistics purposes, studies of social and economic problems of the country.
Like any other surveys undertaken by the NSO, according to Camacho, the data that will be gathered in the said survey are for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms. Information obtained from the respondents shall be held strictly confidential and shall not be used for investigation, taxation and law enforcement purposes and shall not be divulged to any person except authorized NSO personnel acting in the performance of their duties.
In the province, one (1) sample barangay, will be interviewed, covering sixteen (16) sample households in Barangay Bothoan, Caramoran.
