Legazpi acquires new fire truck, a boost to BFP operations in fire fighting and emergencies.

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) – The headquarters of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city has acquired one unit brand new fire truck from the national headquarters seen to give a boost to the local bureau’s operations in fire fighting and emergencies.

Supply Accountable and Property Division (SAPD) officer in charge Captain Anthony Figurasin of the BFP national headquarters has turned over Monday one unit of brand new Rosenvauer fire truck to Mayor Noel Rosal and Fire Marshall C/Insp. Damian Rejano Jr.

The national government, through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), bought the fire truck in Austria and provided for city government in response to the request of Rosal from DILG Secretary Mar Roxas last year.

The new fire truck cost some P17.5 million, fully air conditioned and has a capacity of 1,000 gallons of water  with a 15 fire hoses extending up to 50 feet long each, rescue tools, rapid intervention and complete personnel equipment, emergency medical kit and other fire hazard tools.

Rosal said the new fire truck is one modern vehicle that can bolster the assets in fire fighting and other emergency operation of the BFP personnel in the city.

Meanwhile another fire truck is expected also to be turned over to the city government anytime this year following the approval of the request of former Mayor Geraldine Rosal from the late Secretary Jesse Robredo during his stint in the DILG.

The other fire truck will be donated by the Korean Government

Rejano on the other said the city headquarters of BFP has only five fire trucks and 57 personnel.

He said the bureau needs an additional of at least 30 crewmen to meet the minimum requirements of the city.

BFP Legazpi City is comprised of the central fire station and two sub- stations strategically located in front of PNR site in Penaranda Street and one is in the BFP Motorpool compound in Washington Drive, equipped with one fire truck and manned by 10 BFP crewmen each.

BFP Legazpi City records in 2013 showed 16 reported index fire incidents and 10 non-index happened in this city with an estimated property damage of P2.5 million, mostly caused by electrical short circuit.  (MAL/EMPSolis-LGU Legazpi City/PIA5/Albay)
