VIRAC, Catanduanes, Jan. 29 (PIA) - Barely three-days before the 2014 Palarong Bikol, Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Catanduanes has released the schedule of activities for the event.
According to Jose L. Doncillo, DepEd Catanduanes officer in charge, a solidarity meeting among the delegations will be held at Virac Sports Center at 8- 11 in the morning of February 2.
The kick-off activity—parade of delegations will take place in the afternoon of Feb. 2 to be succeeded by the opening program at Catanduanes Athletics Complex.
During the opening program, Bishop Manolo Delos Santos will give the invocation to be followed by words of welcome from Mr. Doncillo, Virac Mayor Flerida Alberto and Catanduanes Vice-Governor Jose J. Teves, Jr.
The presentation of the different athletic delegations will follow to be led by the athletic delegation head.
The hoisting of the Regional Flag will be done by DepEd Assistant Regional Director Ramon Fiel G. Abcede and Engr. Ronald C. Asis. It shall then be succeeded by the hoisting of delegation flags by the governors, city mayors, schools division superintendents and supervisors.
Congressman Cesar V. Sarmiento will also give an inspiration message to be followed by the introduction of the guest speaker—Hon. Araceli B. Wong.
The athletic torch will be carried by Julio M. Bayaban, Fastest Living Catandunganon and Philippine holder of 100 meter dash and Salve C. Bayaban, Bicol Sprint Queen.
To provide entertainment, a showcase of Virac’s festival will also be held to be followed by special presentation from selected students in the province.
A fellowship night on the same day will also be sponsored by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Catanduanes Chapter at Virac Plaza Rizal.
Meanwhile, Mr. Doncillo disclosed that Virac Athletics Complex will be the venue for archery, athletics, baseball, basketball boys (elementary & secondary), lawn tennis, sipa takraw, sepak takraw, football, softball, swimming, volleyball and athletics for differently abled athletics.
Other games will be held at Catanduanes State University (gymnastics, arnis, table tennis), Virac Plaza Rizal (basketball for secondary girls and boxing), Virac Sports Center (badminton and goal ball for differently-abled athletes), Sta. Elena Covered Court (taekwondo), and Provincial Capitol Dome (chess).
The official added that they will prioritize the safety of athletes and they will ensure that standard procedures and safety measures will be followed to avoid untoward incidents. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
