LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) — Two establishments in Bicol region have qualified for the Gold Seal of Excellence for their efforts to promote balance between pursuing its business objectives while safeguarding the welfare of consumers, according to top official of the Department of Trade and Industry regional office here.
DTI Bicol regional director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco said the Caleb Motor Corporation and SM City, both in Naga City in Camarines Sur were named to the DTI Gold Bagwis Seal award for 2013 following thorough deliberation and evaluation by the DTI National Certification Committee.
“These establishments were found to be compliant with all fair trade laws, have effective and efficient customer relations, store management operations and social commitment and responsibility, Blanco said.
The DTI Bagwis is a Certified Establishment Program (Bagwis Awards) that aims to promote and foster the highest level of business ethics and uphold a fair and honest marketplace through voluntary self-regulation and service excellence
The program is recognized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) as one of the best practices of the country in Consumer Protection.
The Bagwis Program in particular, includes setting up of Consumer Welfare Desks (CWDs) in business places aimed at providing accessible and speedy resolution of complaints to consumers.
In Bicol 18 other establishments qualified for the DTI Bagwis Seal of Excellence, including the two that qualified for the Gold, 6 for Silver and 10 for Bronze, after having met the criteria under the said program.
The establishments that received the DTI Silver Seal of excellence were Davao Citi Hardware/Deco Arts Marketing, Nagaland E-Mall and Lisam Enterprises in Camarines Sur; J.C. Cua Construction and Supply, Virac Junction Hardware and Virac Sunrise Saver’s Supermarket in Catanduanes
While the establishments that received the DTI Bronze Seal of Excellence were Savemore and Sorsogon D’Best Store in Sorsogon; Savemore Metro Hub and Savemore Silverscreen in Albay; Glasshauz Hardware and GemmaGlenn Supermart in Camarines Norte; Virac Eastern Hardware Corporation and Virac Pioneer Grocery and Gen. Mdse. In Catanduanes; Lopez Center and Educational Supply and Transmaster Enterprises and Service Shop in Masbate.
Balnco said DTI Bicol is very much pleased that more establishments have recognized the necessity to obtain the DTI Bagwis Seal not only to help the consumers and enterprises, but most importantly, to help themselves grow as model businesses. (MAL/JRBerango-DTI5/PIA5/Albay)
