VIRAC, Catanduanes, Dec. 3 (PIA) – The provincial elimination for Catanduanes of the 2nd Bicol Essay Writing Competition is set on December 5, 2013.
This year’s activity is dubbed as the “2nd Bicol Essay Writing Competition on Achieving Socio-Economic Development and Competitiveness of Bicol Cities and Municipalities.”
According to Ms. Agnes Popa of Kaya Natin Movement which is the chairman of the event in the province, the activity also aims to raise awareness on the importance of sustaining the gains of Bicol towns and cities as reflected on the Competitiveness Index.
It also aims to attract youth participants to contribute their thoughts and ideas on the socio-economic developments of their respective towns and cities and the whole Bicol Region in general.
The on-the-spot essay writing in English will focus on the theme: “Towards Achieving Socio-Economic Development: The Competitiveness of Bicol Cities and Municipalities.”
The competition has two categories: Category I- Secondary (3rd to 4th year High School); and Category II- Tertiary (1st to 4th/5th year) both private and public schools in the Bicol Region.
A school or college/university can only send one official participant per category duly endorsed by the head of the institution.
The endorsed participant must fill-up an entry form available at the various participating agencies.
Deadline of submission of entry form together with the endorsement of school head is on or before the scheduled provincial elimination.
The entries for the secondary level must contain not less than 800 and not more than 1000 words while for the tertiary level, all entries must contain not less than 1000 words and not more than 1500 words using English as official language and in cursive form.
The organizers will draw a common topic for the secondary and tertiary category during the provincial and regional screening.
The winners (Rank 1) in Category I and II in the provincial screening will compete at the regional competition slated on December 14, 2013 at Agro Sports Center in Daet, Camarines Norte.
Provincial level winners for category I and II P5, 000.00 and certificate (1st Place); P3, 000.00 and certificate (2nd place); P2, 000.00 and certificate (3rd place); and P500.00 consolation prize.
Participants and coaches at the provincial and regional level will receive certificate of participation.
The provincial elimination shall be handled by a committee composed of the representatives of Philippine Information Agency, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, Department of Interior and Local Government, Kaya Natin Movement and the concerned local government.
