VIRAC, Catanduanes, Dec. 27, (PIA)- To prevent injuries and deaths due to indiscriminate firing this Yuletide season, Philippine National Police (PNP) here on December 23, 2013 sealed their firearms.
PNP Provincial Director Police Senior Superintendent Eduardo Chavez led the traditional gun muzzle taping of Catanduanes Police personnel held at Camp Francisco Camacho.
It was conducted simultaneously with other Municipal Police Stations in the 11 towns of the province.
In an interview, PD Chavez said that although their firearms were taped, they can still use it as their last resource when necessary and in line of duty.
He added that the ceremonial taping shows their commitment in promoting safety of civilians and assuring the peaceful celebration of the holiday season.
He also encourages the public to use other alternatives of making noise in welcoming the New Year.
By January 2, 2014, the guns will be checked by the unit chief whose sign appears on the seal to determine whether the order has been complied with.
Violation of the law may result to suspension and termination of duty. (AAN/EAB-PIA5 Catanduanes)
