VIRAC, Catanduanes, Oct. 9 (PIA) - The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Catandunaes has warned residents and urged to exercise vigilance and preparedness in the wake of tropical depression Santi near the province.
PDRRMO chief Engr. Nieva Santelices alerted all Municipal and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils in the eleven towns of the province to continue to monitor their respective areas for any weather-related occurrence.
In its advisory, PDRRMO has also advised fishermen not to venture out of sea due to big waves and to avoid any untoward incidence.
According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of 10:00 a.m. today, Tropical depression "Santi" was estimated to be 560 km East of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum winds of 55 kph near the center. It is expected to move West Northwest at 9 kph.
The weather bureau said that estimated rainfall amount is from 5.0 - 30.0 mm per hour (moderate - occasionally heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
