Team Albay, OCD Bicol deploy humanitarian team for flood victims

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 22 (PIA) – The joint Team Albay and Office of Civil Defence (OCD) Bicol have deployed last night the more than a hundred personnel to assist the victims of severe and massive flooding brought about by monsoon rains and tropical storm “Maring” in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna and other areas in the National Capital Region.

Albay Gov. Joey Salceda said the humanitarian mission will last for two weeks which will provide medical, sanitary and psycho-social services, supply of clean and safe potable waters for victims in the lake side of Laguna, coastal areas of Cavite and heavily affected in Metro Manila.

Salceda added that the humanitarian mission team also brought along with them one filtration machine with a capacity of 32,000 liters/hr at its peak and a tank lorry that will cater to the needs of the residents for clean and safe water supply.

Salceda said the first batch of the humanitarian team left for Metro Manila around 8:00 p.m. last night while the second batch will leave today.

The humanitarian mission contingent will be composed of medical, sanitary and social welfare personnel from the Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office (Apsemo), Provincial Social Welfare Office (PSWDO), Provincial Health Office (PHO), Department of Health (DOH), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and OCD.

Salceda furthered the disaster response measure would be in its ninth humanitarian mission after similar public assistance services were held in Cagayan, Isabela, Catanduanes, Negros Oriental, Cagayan de Oro, Davao Oriental and in Metro Manila in two previous flooding.

Albay also launched a donation campaign dubbed “Lend A Hand” to help the victims of flooding in Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Bataan, Pampanga and Metro Manila.

Salceda has asked Albayanos as well as Bicolanos to extend a helping hand to the victims in flood-stricken areas in NCR, Calabarzon and Central Luzon.
