VIRAC, Catanduanes, August 28, (PIA) - Scoring its first accomplishment, the Task Force Clean and Green of the province of Catanduanes has seized 824 board feet of sawn narra lumber on August 19, 2013 in Caramoran town.
Vice governor Jose J. Teves Jr, task force's chair, said the apprehension of the illegal lumber was a result of a report from an informant who confirmed the presence of the narra lumber along the national highway of the municipality of Caramoran.
Upon confirmation of reports, joint operatives of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) LGU, Task Force Kalikasan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) and Philippine Army 83rd IB Alpha Company proceeded to the area and discovered lumber off the embankment, stock-piled in a frosted area a few meters below the road while awaiting shipment via motorize banca allegedly to mainland Bicol or Quezon Province.
Confiscated lumber was brought to the provincial capitol for documentation and was eventually turned over to the CENRO.
According Teves, the task force will continue to monitor illegal logging activities especially in the northern part of the islands. He said that they will hunt those individuals behind the illegal activity.
Teves added that their campaign for environmental protection will continue to intensify to ensure the preservation of the island’s natural resources. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanudanes)
