LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 6 (PIA) --To provide and ensure good quality education to students is the key to solve the problems of unemployment and poverty. This could be done through the collaborative efforts of the national and local governments as well as private sector.
In a meeting Saturday of local chief executives and local government representatives in Luzon, Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal said they had been pursuing these strategies from which students, as well as academic institutions, have been benefiting from.
The Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) headed the interfacing of local governments delving on the country’s education programs and needs.
Legazpi City, in partnership with Australian Agency for International Development and the Asia Foundation, meanwhile hosted the consultation held at the Bicol University in this city.
Rosal said through the consultation, several local governments shared their best practices in improving the quality of education, related programs, policies and initiatives.
With the consultation, we also hope or expect this to enhance the teaching abilities of the mentors as well as to strengthen the learning abilities of the students, Rosal said.
Rosal said during the term of his wife, former Mayor Geraldine B. Rosal, the city constructed and rehabilitated school buildings in different villages, particularly in the far-flung areas of this city.
This, he said, is part of the strategy of bringing the government closer to the people to give more opportunities to students who want to finish their studies.
The city executive also said the city administration had entered into agreement with the Bicol University Tertiary Education Program from which many city students have benefited with free tuition fees and less miscellaneous expenses. (MAL/EPSolis-LGU Legazpi City/PIA5, Albay)
