LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 13 (PIA) -- The Public Safety Office of this city has collected some P390,550 in fines from 2,935 violators of the city’s traffic ordinances from January to June this year.
Perfecto Ofracio Jr., PSO head, said in an interview the amount collected has already been remitted to the city treasurer’s office.
Ofracio said the apprehensions was conducted by the PSO, assisted by the Philippine National Police, the Smoke-Free Task Force Enforcers, and the Bicol Communicators and Environmental Rescue.
He said the composite group also arrested 95 violators of non-traffic ordinances of Legazpi.
Ofracio said traffic laws implemented in this city include Motorcycle Law; law on bus banned from prescribed traffic routes; the Legazpi City Revised Guidelines on Policies on Tricycles, Pedi cabs and other similar vehicles; Filcab Vans prescribed traffic routes, and the Traffic Code of Legazpi City.
The non-traffic laws being enforced are the Legazpi City Revised Smoke Free, Illegal Vending, the No Garbage Ban Ordinance and the Anti-Littering Law.
Ofracio said most of the violators were first timers and came from other provinces and nearby municipalities.
He said the common reason for the violations was ignorance of ordinances being implemented in this city. (MAL/ Emmanuel P. Solis-LGU-Legazpi City/PIA5)
