BUHI, Camarines Sur, June 28 (PIA) -- More than 500 elementary pupils from Monte Calvario Elementary School received school supplies from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in line with its Balik Eskwela Program covering communities in barangays hosting their transmission facilities.
NGCP South Luzon Corporate Communication and Public Affairs officer Nelson Bautista said that as part of their corporate social responsibility, they see to it that members of the community are well informed of the thrust of NGCP and are aware of the great responsibility as caretakers of their power facilities.
“This is the last leg of our Balik Eskwela program which we have implemented in almost 27 elementary schools in the South Luzon area. Here in Camarines Sur, I think we have already delivered the same services in some eight areas which have benefited more or less 3,000 beneficiaries,” Bautista said in an interview.
In a simple program, Monte Calvario Elementary School Principal Marites Y. Abagat cited NGCP for including their school as one of the recipients of the said program.
The school belongs to the cross road sector within the Rinconada area. Most of its pupils, who belong to the indigent families, have to walk more than an hour just to reach their school and attend classes. The school site is more or less three to four kilometers away from the town proper.
Around 499 pupils of the Del Rosario Elementary School in Naga City also received the same merchandise.
School principal Margerie B. Bathan, together with the local barangay officials, Casureco III representatives, and parents welcomed the NGCP team and members of the local media.
The customized notebook contains safety tips on how to avoid accident particularly for the members of the community who resides near the towers.
“Through this project, NGCP wants the community to feel that they are not only caretakers but also shareholders of these power facilities. We want them to feel that their safety is of utmost importance to us. While we enjoy the benefits brought by electricity, we should also be cautious that the towers emits high voltages that can cause our lives, or the lives of our loved ones that’s why we are asking everyone to please observe and share these safety tips particularly to our children,” Bautista added.
