LEGAZPI CITY, June 14 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provincial field office in Masbate hosted the first ever Enhance Training and Advisory Visit (ETAV) in the entire region last week in Milagros town.
DOLE Bicol regional director Nathaniel V. Lacambra has ordered all provincial offices of the agency to focus its information campaign within the month of June on basic labor laws to retail and service establishments, categorized under micro and small enterprises, having the bulk of the region’s enterprises.
Lacambra said the move came after information on non-compliance of labor standards on these category of enterprises reached the agency.
"However, if we impose labor laws, these establishments might close-shop because of their vulnerability to economic crisis. If that happens, instead of helping workers, we might be putting them to greater risk. So the approach should be developmental,” Lacambra commented.
Some 28 participants, comprised of 18 employers and ten workers were imparted with significant information regarding the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers.
Lacambra bared the participants were trained on Providing Just Compensation and Related Benefits; Establishing a Safe and Healthy Workplace; Employee’s Compensation Commission (ECC) Program; Promoting A Child Labor–Free Workplace; Kasamabahay Bill–RA 10361 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).
“Since ETAV covers those establishments with only nine and below 10 workers, most of them are covered with the exemptions on related benefits,” DOLE Masbate PFO Carlos Onding stressed.
Ms. Estrellita L. Lupango of Shane & Shine, expressed gratitude to DOLE for the conduct of the activity. "Naliwanagan gayo kami sin maayo k naaraman namon an manunungod sa mga bag-o na layi san gobyerno lalo na an kasambahay law" (We were enlightened with labor laws and the new batas kasambahay).
“Another ITC has been added to our line-up this year. It means that we have yet another “kasanga” in Masbate.” RD Lacambra ended. (MAL/DOLE5/PIA5)
