LEGAZPI CITY, June 17 (PIA) -- With barely two weeks prior to the attempt to form the largest human no-smoking sign for the Guinness World Records (GWR), more than 10,000 participants already officially signed up.
Smoke-Free Albay Network (SFAN) chairperson and provincial board member Herbert Borja told Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that as of Thursday, June 13, there are already 11,760 persons who signed up for the event.
“Aside from individual registrants, there are already 47 agencies that signified their participation,” Borja said.
SFAN said that the 13,000 targeted participants will be divided into three groups classified according to the three colors based on the internationally-recognized no-smoking sign of a smoking cigarette inside a red circle with a white background and red backslash.
According to SFAN, 7,263 participants will wear white shirts, 3,605 will be in red shirts and 892 will wear black.
“The support groups will wear yellow except for the medical team which will wear green and the uniformed personnel with their official colors,” Borja told PIA.
Meanwhile, the AMA Computer College is preparing their systems in documenting and verifying the participants as required by the GWR guidelines.
“We opted for the barcoded ticketing system among the acceptable counting methods based on GWR’s guidelines,” Registration Tracking head Jonathan Sadueste-Ng said.
GWR defines ticketing system with bar codes as tickets obtained prior to the event that are scanned as participants enter and the scanner registers the number of tickets. If participants pre-register online and obtain a personalized bar code, the machine can also register their names and other information, GWR added.
GWR requires that participants must be counted individually by an efficient, accurate method upon entering the venue. “The venue is already fenced with designated entrances and exits to ensure that all participants are properly documented,” Borja said.
With 13,000 participants, Albay will attempt to depict the image of the no-smoking sign as a solid figure and completely filled in to capacity and not simply an outline of the shape as required by GWR.
The event higlights the series of activities that the provincial government of Albay and SFAN had prepared in celebration of the International No-Smoking Month this June, Albay Governor Jose “Joey” Salceda said.
“(This is) to give relevance and meaning to the implementation of the Albay Smoke-free Ordinance and to educate or to instill awareness on the ill-effects of smoking and its hazards to the environment,” Salceda said.
Borja said that they welcome interested participants for the event. They can contact him at his office at telephone number (052)822-3175, or 0922-8398437 or at his email address hsborja8@yahoo.com. They can also coordinate through Governor Salceda’s office at telefax number (052) 481-2555 or 0908-8660824 or email address albaygovoffice@yahoo.com.
