NAGA CITY, May 3 (PIA) -- True to his words, President Benigno S. Aquino III set foot here today anew to fulfill his promise of leading the inauguration of the newly refurbished Naga City Hospital (NCH) located at Barangay Penafrancia, this city.
NCH, an LGU operated hospital since 1991 was beneficiary of a P15M grant coming from the National government through the Department of Health (DOH) and received a counterpart of another P10M from the city government here to renovate the old facility and upgrade its category.
NCH was considered as one of the fortunate beneficiaries under the government’s Hospital Facilities Enhancement Program ( HFEP). DOH fund was used to rehabilitate the old building while the city’s counterpart was used to purchase laboratory equipment, improve medical facilities and was utilized for the acquisition of new beds and other hospital furnishings.
City administrator Florencio “Jun” Mongoso said that alongside with the facial lift of the hospital is a grand plan of requiring the medical personnel to undergo necessary trainings to ensure that their skills will match the state of the art facilities that they have purchased.
This, he said is meant to ensure that Naguenos will receive the utmost medical treatment from the best medical team in the land.
“The new facade will be useless if our medical personnel are not equipped with the latest know-how on how to operate modern equipment. The facilities will be complimented with the skilled medical practitioners and staff,” Mongoso said in an interview.
The upgrading, under the new DOH classification will minimize referrals to other tertiary hospitals in the medical management of tertiary medical cases. In the past, NCH was able to respond to patients who are suffering from acute gastroenteritis, urinary tract infection, dengue fever, hypertension and pneumonia – five of the top ten causes of admission in the said hospital.
Dra. Luningning A. Luciano, NCH chief of hospital, said that the upgrading will enable them to facilitate patients who are in dire need of diagnostic examination. The improvement of the facilities will also increase the number of patients who will receive the services being offered by NCH.
“As Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEMONC) Hospital, NCH is now a referral hospital for emergency medical neonatal and obstetrical care cases,” Luciano added. (LSM-PIA5/Camarines Sur)
