Soldiers are bridges of good governance – Rosal
By Marlon A. Loterte
CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur, April 12 (PIA) – Former Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal said the military is being falsely accused by militant groups of engaging in “urban militarization” in Legaspi City.
He said the soldiers are conducting community outreach and education programs in seven barangays in Legaspi City.
“Give them (soliders) a chance,” Rosal said. “They deserve to be given a chance to prove themselves different from what others think they are.”
Rosal insisted that the presence of the Army in villages in Legazpi City is permitted by the local government because the Philippine Army partners with the city government to implement projects that cater to the needs of poor residents.
“They serve as our bridges or links to the people because they alert us on the needs of our constituents. We come to know of the people’s complaints and wishes because they work closely with them as beneficiaries of community outreach,” he said. (MAL/ASGuzman-PAO, 9ID-PA/PIA5)
