Construction of techno-skills development center in San Jose underway

SAN JOSE, Camarines Sur, April 15 (PIA) -- The municipal government here has commenced the construction of a techno-skills development center equipped with facilities and equipment to address the need for livelihood opportunities of residents.
Mayor Antonio B. Chavez of this town said the local government sought the assistance of various government agencies in realizing the said project, including the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), among others.
The center, located in a 225 square meter lot in Poblacion area, will serve as venue for various alternative education training, especially for the Out-of-school youths (OSY).
The center will also cater to interested individuals who would want to gain or improve their skills and competencies.
San Jose municipal administrator and Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) acting chief Alexis Olalia related that the project costs some P5,263,157.90, with counterpart from the municipal government amounting to P263,157.90 while the P5 M was provided for partner agencies.
“One of the targets of the local government is to institutionalize livelihood development program that will provide more alternative livelihood opportunities to the constituents that would help uplift the economic state of our town,” Olalia said in an interview.
Initial training programs include refrigeration and air-conditioning, automotive mechanic for diesel and gasoline engines, consumer electronics, welding, electrical, plumbing, masonry and handicraft.
The center will also cater to vocational ventures like cosmetology, pastry/ baking, food preservation and shortened courses on physical therapy will also have an opportunity to enhance their skills once the center is ready for the said endeavors.
With the start of its construction this April, San Joseans are hopeful that they are on for better livelihood opportunities in the upcoming years. (MAL/LSM/PIA5-Camarines Sur)
