Electric company assures uninterrupted power service during Palarong Bicol ‘13

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb. 22 (PIA) -- First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ficelco) has assured the public that there will be no power service interruptions throughout the duration of the 2013 Palarong Bicol.
This was recently bared by Ficelco General Manager Sammuel Laynes following an increasing number of unannounced and unscheduled brownouts in various towns of Catanduanes.
According to Laynes, they have already checked power connections of sports and athletics venues for this year’s palaro particularly the DepEd Sports Complex where most of the events will take place.
He added that connections in the different billeting schools in the province have also been checked already to assure safety and convenience of the participants.
Meanwhile, Virac and Bato Water Districts said that delegates need not worry since they have sufficient water supply.

EDSA ‘Salubungan’ to be re-enacted in Palarong Bicol 2013

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb. 22 (PIA) -- The opening ceremony of the Palarong Bicol 2013 tomorrow, February 23, in Catanduanes will showcase the re-enactment of the EDSA Salubungan (meeting), in time for the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary on Monday, among the athletes and officials of the 13 participating delegations from Bicol Region.
Department of Education (DepEd) officer-in-charge in the province Jose L. Doncillo said during the media committee meeting for the Palarong Bicol that “Salubungan Para sa Pilipino” will take place after the parade were the participating delegations will be divided into two groups which will take two different routes from Virac Plaza to Catanduanes Athletic Complex. The two groups will then meet at the venue of the opening ceremony where a program will be held.
Salubungan is a reenactment of what happened 27 years ago when then General Fidel Ramos and Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile met with civilian protesters and joined forces against the dictatorship.
Meanwhile, President Benigno S. Aquino III will lead the 27th Anniversary celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution Feb 25 at the People Power Monument in EDSA in Quezon City.
It will be highlighted by the re-enactment of the Salubungan to be held simultaneously in Manila, Virac, Dumaguete, and Zamboanga . (EAB-PIA5, Catanduanes)
