LEGAZPI CITY, Dec.11 (PIA) – Graduating students of the College of Arts of Sciences (CAS) of the Divine Word College of Legazpi (DWCL) honed their skills on research skills through a Research Training Writeshop held December 5-6, 2012.
The training, with the theme “Research Challenges, Academic Responsibilities and Initiatives,” was participated in by graduating students with courses AB Economics, AB English Language, AB Political Science, BS Biology, BS Mathematics, BS Psychology at BS Library Information Science.
Dr. Rose Marie Salazar-Clemeña, former dean and Psychology professor in the Department of Education of De La Salle University and Executive Vice President of De La Salle University – College of St. Benilde and now member of the Board of Trustees and Psychology professor of DWCL, served as the resource speaker.
Clemeña explained in detail the fundamentals and step-by-step processes of writing a research paper as well as every part necessary to complete a chapter.
The participants had the chance to present their research proposals to the body and these were critiqued by the resource speaker. She gave suggestions, corrections and tips which serve very useful on the students’ undertaking of their own studies.
The CAS, in cooperation with the Society of Arts and Sciences (SAS), the central organization of CAS students, organized the write shop.
According to Mr. Edgardo Besmonte, adviser of SAS, the activity was designed to enhance the students’ knowledge and nurture their abilities on research writing.
The writeshop also aimed to help the students who are currently busy writing their research papers especially that this is one of the requirements of their respective courses.
“Writing a research paper is a rough journey. We can’t avoid rough roads along the way but in the end, we will be able to reach the finish line. The writeshop helped me a lot.
Now, I already know the DOs and DON’Ts in writing a research paper,” said Leslie Leosala, one of the participants in the write shop. (MAL/SOMontales-PIA5/Albay)
