1.2 million tree seedlings planted under the National Greening Program in Camarines Norte

DAET, Camarines Norte, Dec 19 (PIA) - More than 1.2 million assorted tree seedlings were planted in some 2,448 hectares established for the months of January to November this year as part of the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Ponciano M. Mabeza said that NGP is one of the priority program of the government and its objective is to breen bald forests, uplift the living condition of the upland dwellers, and reduce poverty of poor households and indigenous people and in coastal/urban areas.
It will be recalled that under the NGP more than 400,000 assorted tree seedlings were planted to 614 hectares established for the whole year in 2011.
There are also other programs and projects as well as conservation/protection programs for the continuous development of vaiours ecosystems within the province.
Included in the program is the continuing implementation and monitoring of Bicol River Basin Watershed Management Program (BRBWMP) that contribute to the restoration of the denuded forest lands through different rehabilitation approached like upland reforestation, and assisted natural regeneration and agro-forestry by contract with non-government organization (NGOs), people’s organizations (POs), and local government units (LGUs).
The developed areas are being maintained and protected by selected organizations with the continues assistance of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO). (RBM/PIA Camarines Norte).
