PILI, Camarines Sur, July 5 (PIA) -- Iriga City Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen and Nabua Municipal Mayor Delia C. Simbulan were named finalists to the 2012 Outstanding Public Official and Employee or Dangal ng Bayan Awards contenders under the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) Honor Awards Program.
CSC Camarines Sur Director II Jocelyn L. Marifosque said that out of the 20 nominees from Bicol Region, only Gazmen and Simbulan made it as official nominees.
“ We are happy that we have two finalists coming here in Camarines Sur. I hope that this will encourage more public officials to be a part of this search in the upcoming years, not just for the prestige that it brings but also to showcase their great deeds and to exemplify the essence of being a true public servant”.
Gazmen, the first lady-mayor of the City of Smiles, has dramatically transformed Iriga into a booming agro-ecotourism center. Holding the record as the city’s youngest mayor in the last thirteen years, Gazmen was able to give her city a +72 Net trust rating in a Social Weather Station survey. She contributed this to the satisfactory results of the Local Government Performance Management System initiated by the said survey firm.
Under Simbulan’s term, Nabua also received the Seal of Good Housekeeping for its exemplary performance in internal housekeeping specifically in the areas of planning, sound fiscal management, transparency and accountability and for valuing performance management. LGU Nabua has also created their website where all the government transactions are posted and is open for public perusal.
Other award categories at stake: Awards for Outstanding Work Performance which includes the Presidential or Lingkod Bayan Awards, Civil Service Commission Pag-Asa Awards and the Award for Exemplary Conduct and Ethical Behavior. Both Gazmen and Simbulan belongs to the latter category.
The award is bestowed to any public official who met the criteria set by the CSC particularly the nominee’s consistent demonstration of commendable ethical behavior pursuant to Republic Act 6713 or commonly known as the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”
The awardees will receive a trophy designed by the National Artist for Sculpture Napoleon Abueva, P200,000.00 cash reward and other forms of incentives pursuant to the provisions of RA 6713. Awarding ceremonies will be during the anniversary celebration of the Philippine Civil Service Commission in September. (MAL/LSM-PIA 5, Camarines Sur)
