State college wins Dangal ng Kalikasan award

VIRAC, Catanduanes, June 23 (PIA) -- For sustaining the gains of its environmental protection program and initiating more eco-driven policies and projects, the Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) won the academe category of the Governor Joseph C. Cua Dangal ng Kalikasan Award.

CSC SUC President III Dr. Minerva I. Morales received the recognition during the opening ceremonies of the Linggo ng Kalikasan celebration at the Catanduanes Provincial Capitol compound on June 18.

Governor Cua, together with guest of honor former Supreme Chief Justice Renato Puno handed the trophy and cash award to CSC.

Also joining the awarding is Cong. Cesar V. Sarmiento, Judge Lelu Contreras of Regional Trial Court Branch 42, and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer Ed Guerrero.

CSC was recognized for its “significant contribution in the field of ecological solid waste management through its aggressive environmental education programs and strong policy framework that is currently transforming the institution into an eco-ville, where the timeless principles of sustainable development are at work.”

The awarding of Dangal ng Kalikasan was one of the highlights of the opening ceremonies of the Linggo ng Kalikasan, which was kicked off by the parade around downtown Virac.

The CSC community, along with other local and national government agencies, took part in the weeklong celebration.

CSC also spearheaded the mural painting contest, and participated in the tree planting on June 22 in Buenavista, Bato, Catanduanes, along with local and national government agencies. (MAL/EAB/GSR-CSC)
