ALBAY ON ALERT FOR TYPHOON JUAN

LEGAZPI CITY -- The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council of Albay has advised all disaster managers down to the villages to be very vigilant against lahar flash floods, mudflows, storm surges and landslides as rains brought by typhoon Juan started to pour Friday noon.

Albay Governor Joey Salceda said "since the disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies and the respective rescue and response teams are in place, all we have to do is to pray the Oratio Imperata, a very powerful prayer, so that 'Juan' would spare the province as well as the country."

"Before Juan (International name Megi) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), we were notified and updated by other international agencies. But, since it entered PAR (and it became Typhoon Juan), our provincial DRR policy is to exclusively use the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather bulletins as basis for response," Salceda added.

Cedric Daep, head of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) said that "since Wednesday, the PDCC has been monitoring the evolving weather system even if preliminary track projections have central tendencies around Northern Luzon. And Governor Salceda, being the PDCC chairman, asked our people to be on alert at all times." (PNA Bicol/PIA/mal)

6,764 EXAMINEES TO TAKE THE CAREER SERVICE EXAMS IN BICOL

LEGAZPI CITY — A total of 6,764 examinees will take the career service written examinations on October 17 in eight testing centers in the cities of Legazpi and Naga.

Of the total number of examinees, 5,865 examinees will take the Professional test while 899 will take the Sub-Professional test.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) informs the examinees that they may check their school and room assignments through the “Online Notice of Assignment” section of the CSC website (www.csc.gov.ph). In checking their school and room assignments, examinees must key in their complete name, date of birth, region, and examination level; enter the verification code; and click ‘Generate Notice’. The system will generate information on the name of school, address of school, and room number assigned to the examinees.

Examinees should print a copy of their respective notice of assignments, which serve as their examination permit, and bring this together with their application receipts and a valid I.D. card on the examination day. However, those who have already received their notices of assignment through mail need not print a copy of their notice.

Passing the career service examinations would result in the conferment of either Professional or Sub-professional eligibility that is needed, among others, for permanent appointment to corresponding career service positions in the government, except those that involve practice of profession or are covered by special laws.
